Dr. Pandya is a tenure-track Associate Professor in the Electrical and
Computer Engineering Department at Wayne State University.
His Ph.D. is in the field of Bioengineering with proven expertise in
advanced software development for visualization/image processing
technology and sensor integration as applied to the fields of image
guided neurosurgery and robotic surgery.
CARES team works in collaboration with the
Children’s Hospital of Michigan (Dr. Michael Klein), The Detroit Medical Center (Dr. Don Weaver), NASA, and
the US Army on three main robotics related projects: medical, military,
and space robotics. The common issues for all the remote
operators (surgeons, astronauts and soldiers) are adequate sensors in
the remote environment, adequate visualization, and
performance. The research paradigm of the group puts the user
at the center of the design environment with hardware/software
development, user testing and implementation all conducted in
conjunction with the aim of increasing the users performance.
