Subject: 05/24/03 Update from Kraig, Loren and Keren
Dear all,
It's always so wonderful to come home! Keren had her fundo (stomach wrap) and g-tube surgery on
Wednesday and we were able to come home yesterday--so much better than the week
we spent at the hospital when she had her jaw surgery! All went smoothly, and we even ended up
in a private room which was a dream in and of itself (as far as dream hospital
stays can go!). Keren's thriving,
and just to show me that she's definitely doing well she ate some rice cereal
this afternoon with no signs of stress, and pretty good signs of enjoyment :)
! Her smile is a little scarce at
the moment...a little bit as if she just wants us to know that she really did
not appreciate our dragging her through all this.... Ah well, I've been seeing glimpses of it and I know it will
return soon!
We also were able to get her achilles' tendon nicked on her club
foot at the same time, which was good, but unfortunately we weren't able to get
the rest of her jaw hardware removed.
Blah. The most annoying
thing about that was that the reason we had waited this long for the surgery
was so that Keren's jaw doctor and ped. surgeon could do both things the same
day. Her jaw doctor backed out the
day before because, "the surgery would be too long for Keren and she (the
doctor) hadn't realized we were getting a g-tube and fundo." Hello!!!! I saw her write that down!!!! I mean, I understand not putting Keren through too much at
once, but that means another hospital stay in a month and more anesthesia and
more waiting.... This doctor is
great at her work, and very careful about her patients' well-being, but she
also has this thing about sharing her time with other doctors. Oh the joys!
Well, for now we're home and get to look forward to a family
wedding in early June and a visit from Grandma and Grandpa Warnemuende!
We'll keep you posted!
Much love,
Loren for all
