Subject: Quick update 02/28/03 from Kraig, Loren and Keren

Dear Friends,

I've been meaning to write for ages, but life is a bit nutso right now with the running here and there from doctor to doctor.  While I have a minute, I wanted to put out a prayer request, and then I'll give more details in another email when I've got more time.  Two big things for Keren are coming up:  First, a "jaw distraction" (a surgical procedure which will move her bottom jaw out so it lines up with the top, and so give her tongue more room in her mouth and help her breathe better); Second is a stomach feeding tube.  We've decided to go ahead with this due to difficulty with Keren getting all the food she needs and since she takes soooo long and uses up all that energy.  The stomach tube is a nice way to go because she can still eat orally (so we can keep working on that), and it's not necessarily permanent.  Also, the doctor we're working with on that can do it in a relatively non-invasive way which would mean less recovery time.

SO, the big request for prayer!  We're trying to coordinate the two surgeries so that Keren will only have one hospital stay.  Also, if we have the stomach tube done at the same time as the jaw distraction, we'll know she'll be willing and able to get food right after surgery (we aren't sure if she would want to suck on a bottle, or tolerate an oral feeding tube).  The timing of all this is tricky for the two doctors and the jaw distraction doctor tends to be a little pushy for her way or no way.....

I'll be in touch with more news!!!  Please pray!

Love,

Loren for Kraig and Keren, too

P.S.--Kraig posted a new page of Keren photos on our web page, so feel free to check it out!   Here's the page:   http://webpages.eng.wayne.edu/~ad6075 ....  You'll click on Keren's photo to get to her page, and then click on "more pictures of Keren here" to bring up the new page.
