AMOS (Adjustable
Mobile Orthosis Seat) is a lightweight transportation device that accommodates
seating orthoses from the wheelchairs of children with severe multiple
impairments. The Creform-constructed AMOS may be adjusted easily to accommodate
students of different sizes for various activities, and does so in a safer,
more convenient manner than commercially available products.
Alternative seating
devices have proven to be awkward to use and difficult to modify. One such
example is the Corner Chair, as pictured below. Two pieces of wood, 2.5
ft by 2.5 ft, mount at a right angle to form the sides of the chair, and
a wooden base supports the child and his/her orthosis. This arrangement
makes it difficult for staff to interact with the child, especially during
feeding and therapy activities.
The compact structure
of the AMOS allows staff to have easy access to the child. AMOS is easy
to move and features wheel locks for added stability during play, group
work, and therapy sessions.

NOTE: AMOS is currently patent-pending.
